"I sustained 2 concussions in less than 48 hours. I was hospitalized for 8 days. I have spent a year In rehabilitation- I started with learning the alphabet and how to walk. I missed a semester of school and have been slowly working back in.
Being dependent on the people around you is difficult, but I have learned without a support system healing is nearly impossible. TBI has taught me that some times it is best to fall on your sword and ask for help.
My injury has taught me to cherish the ‘normals’ in life, for we will not always have them. The normal things I used to engage in now seem out of sight.
TBI has also taught me patience; I have to explain that there is no 'typical' three day concussion and that I can’t just 'shake it off.'
My advice is to never give up. Even when we can not see the small improvements from day to day (or even week to week) others can. We can all hope that one day our stack of victories will become higher and higher as our struggles become smaller."
